Don't Be a Monkey......ASSUME NOTHING.

Making assumptions is something many of us are guilty of. An assumption is “something taken for granted or accepted as true without proof.” In other words, it is a belief without proof. There is this joke that goes: “when you assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME.” How true! Never assume anything. As much as possible, always try to have proof for your ‘belief’ and reason(s) for your action.
Are you sure that the way you perceive or see things/people is the way they really are? Many have missed out of life's opportunity simply because of  their assumption! Are you willing to challenge the norm in order to succeed? Bad enough, your assumptions can influence your attitudes and behaviors in a big way and so ultimately influence your future. It is always necessary in any given circumstance to ask the question “why?” before doing or not doing anything. Why can’t you be wealthy? Why can’t you be great? Why can’t you be the person that brings about great change? If you truly analyse these questions and try to answer them you will find that most of your answers will be only assumptions or, at the very least, excuses.

I love a story told by one of the most highly acclaimed creativity experts in the world and the author of the best seller; Thinkertoys; Michael Michalko. He gave a remarkable example of behavior that is based on assumptions. He asks the reader to imagine a cage containing five monkeys. A banana is then hung on a string inside the cage and a set of stairs placed in the cage leading up to the banana. Whenever a monkey goes up the stairs and grabs the banana, ice-cold water is poured on all the monkeys in the cage. Very soon, as the monkeys begin to associate touching the banana with being sprayed with ice-cold water they will try to prevent one another from trying to get the banana.
The cold water is then turned off and one monkey removed from the cage and replaced with another that doesn’t know anything about the cold water. This new monkey will inevitably try to get the banana, but the other four monkeys will attack him to stop him from doing so.
If another of the old monkeys is removed and replaced with a newcomer, this newcomer will try to grab the banana. The previous newcomer will gladly take part in beating him up together with the other monkeys in order to prevent him from climbing the stairs to the banana(even without know their reason).
One after the other, all the original monkey can be replaced with new monkeys in this manner. The cage will now be totally filled with monkeys that know nothing about the ice-cold water, but they will all not try to get the banana and continue to attack any monkey that tries to do so. No monkey should ever again approach the stairs. Why Not? Because as far as they know, that’s the way it’s always been around here. Don’t be a monkey. Challenge all assumptions.

Often, our actions, behaviors and assumptions continue long after the reasons for them have passed. That is why picking up things and doing them because others have always done and continue to do them that way is never a good idea. Any person who desire to be a great success and a leader both to themselves and to others must not take anything for granted. He must not simply assume that the way he sees things is the way they really are or the way they should be. Never assume anything – free yourself.
Free yourself from the web of social pressures in which the rest of the world are caught. Question the assumptions that even the majority accept especially if they don’t have any rational reason for them. Avoid the monkey mentality. Never assume that an individual is the way someone has described them. Get close to them and find out who they really are. Don’t assume. Be kind. Tell the truth and never say anything you are not able to fully stand by. Stop your many assumptions. According to Aaron Levie ‘start with the assumption that the best way to do something is not the best way they are being done right now”. Have a Great day.

DISCOVER AND BE GREAT

Indeed, discovery is a path to Greatness! Believe it friends, everything that makes or will make mankind great is always COVERED. For you to become great, you must daily UNCOVER that which is COVERED. In simple term, this is what it means to DISCOVER i.e. your ability to uncover what is originally covered. It is finding out about new things or old things that have been hidden. It is about seeking a better understanding and learning new things. Truth is; God does not hide from us but He hides some things FOR us to DISCOVER for our own benefits.

The more that you know, the more you know that you don’t know. Also, the more that you know you don’t know the more that you want to know. One of the thrilling things about life is learning what you originally did not know. Your life should be a life of learning. A life of discovery. Learning is an enduring process. The deeper you get into a topic the more insight you gain. Don't stop at the top, dig down continuously. Make every day an opportunity to learn new things. It will surely help you grow and become all that you want to be.

Life is about discovery. A person who always desire to discover is a person in pursuit of destiny. The more you discover the better you become and the more productive you are. Discovery is important for people that are on the road of INTENTIONAL GROWTH. You must continually work on rearranging your thoughts to accommodate new insights that might come to you from variety of sources. We were all born with the desire to learn and know more. That is why in the course of our continued existence here on earth make new discoveries. We have to be open and ready for whatever discovery life brings us at every given moment.

New discoveries are acquired through various senses and are usually assimilated, merging with pre-existing knowledge and actions. Questioning plays a key role in discovery. Discoveries are often made due to questions. Some discoveries lead to the invention of objects, products, processes, or techniques. A discovery may sometimes be based on earlier discoveries, collaborations or ideas, and the process of discovery requires at least the awareness that an existing concept or method can be modified or transformed. However, some discoveries also represent a radical breakthrough in knowledge and might eventually lead to other discoveries.

It is amazing how the world has changed in recent time as a result of many discoveries. Anyone who wants to gain more control needs to get ahead in knowledge and discoveries. Never stop learning as one discovery always lead to another. I am always humbled when I witness wonderful things other people already know that I do not know. I love Socrates’ popular saying; "what I do not know I do not think I know". Never assume you know what you do not know. Always challenge the norm and seek out the answers for yourself. Follow no one blindly. Do nothing without first seeking to understand why. Always keep an open mind. Most importantly, never lose your ability to learn and be taught. I hope you still haven’t forgotten this article I wrote sometimes last year about learning.

My thoughts on my Birthday.

I really do not know where to start from. Should I start by wishing you a happy new year or what? I guess it is only proper that I start this piece by apologising and thanking everyone to did enquired about my whereabouts. I sincerely apologise. I have to take an unavoidable retreat to attend to an assignment. I am back now and though I can’t promise articles everyday but I want to assure you that I will write as often as I can. Thanks for your understanding. I miss you all. Here is a short piece I wrote today as it is the occasion of my birthday. Stay good.

Today is 13th of March, it’s a beautiful day outside - sunny and warm! It’s a special day in God’s calendar and I dare you to look at the stars when it’s night time and you‘d see that the day is indeed blessed. Greatness is embedded in the 13th of March and many great people chose this great day to come to this world. For me, it’s another beautiful day to celebrate
another year! Yes, it is my birthday! Today, as many of you might already know, I become a year older (I don dey old o). Many thoughts and feelings come to me this special day! Mostly a deep feeling of appreciation to God for a journey that is unique, blessed and exciting. For me, my birthday is a time when I remind myself of how much I have to be grateful for. It's a day where I think about the good people (and things) I have been blessed with. The lessons I have learnt all through the years (learnt so many this last year). When it comes to thanking God, it greatly boils down to every little detail of what he has done for me and His promise of Greatness in my life. How blessed I am, how much good I have in my life and I want to show Him how much I appreciate Him.

Likewise, I thank everyone who remembered me today and said a word of prayer for me! Each greeting and prayer really mean a lot to me and absolutely made my day. You guys are absolutely fantastic. Thanks to the internet for making remembering people's birthday and sending greetings much easier! My gratitude will not be complete without thanking my family for always been there through thick and thin. I specially want to appreciate the love of my life (Ms. Obinna Oyinyechi Taiwo V.) for her pure love and always taking the time and making efforts to make me feel special every day (not just today). You remain the best.
My ultimate appreciation goes to my maker! I thank you lord for giving me another year - another year to be productive, to share my life and be a blessing to other people. Thank You for the overflowing blessings you continually shower on me. I pray that you always guide me and help me become a better person every day. I have relied on you all my life and you have protected me since the day I was born till this day. I will always praise you my Jehovah. I thank you for your kindness, mercy, grace and protection, for all my achievements, for the family and friends you have blessed me with. Lord You have been good to me all these years and I sincerely thank you for that! Father, I do not know what lies ahead but I promise that as long as I have my being, I will praise you every day. I have no doubt in my heart that you are holding my future in your precious hand. Let my ways be pleasing to you. As you have
promised, be with me O Lord, hold me with your strength and uplifting grace so that I can shine for your glory. Grant me all the needs in my life and support me in all I do. Grant me the grace to draw closer to you and keep me away from all harm and danger. Let this year be a year of blessing for me Lord. I know where you fit into my life, I have no doubt about your thoughts towards me hence I pray that not my will be done but yours in my life. Help me to live a fulfilled life, a life dedicated to your glory and humanity.
Lord, I remember your promise today in Joshua 1:5 and unshakably stand by it;
"No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you."
